Cybersecurity terms - Email gateway

An email gateway is a security mechanism that monitors incoming and outgoing email traffic and analyses the emails with a pre-defined set of rules to filter out or quarantine potentially malicious messages. Email gateways may be on premises soutions or cloud-based, and when used effectively can be a business' first line of defence against email based malicious campaigns.
